What are the Benefits of Reiki Treatments?
Many people have experienced the following health benefits:
• Stress Reduction
• Relaxation
• Pain Relief
• Strengthened Immune System which aids in healing
• Reduction in negative side effects from Radiation & Chemotherapy
• Enhancement of traditional medical treatments
Reiki is particularly effective when given before surgery, after
recovery time from surgery, or soon after a trauma has occurred.
It is during these times that the energy available in the body is needed
to jump start the innate healing process and receiving Reiki is greatly
beneficial to the body’s energy system.
Many hospitals are now offering Reiki treatments to patients, right in their own rooms, following all types of procedures. In our own local hospital, there are Reiki practitioners available to people in the radiation / oncology department to give them Reiki while they are receiving chemotherapy and other treatments.
Receiving Reiki on a regular basis also benefits those without symptoms or disease.
The Reiki energy will keep you balanced and harmonized. Along with a healthy lifestyle, keeping your life force energy balanced and preventing blockages promotes the maintenance of health and the reduction of illnesses, diseases, and emotional upsets.
Are there any side effects from Reiki Treatments?
The majority of people feel relaxed and energized after a treatment. Sometimes, when deep healing is taking place, a healing reaction may occur. This may occur hours -or a day or two- after the treatment, as toxins in the body are released into the blood stream and removed by the liver, kidneys and other internal processes.
It is a good idea to drink more water and/or herbal teas and get adequate rest following a session, to allow the body’s natural cleansing process to work efficiently.
Who can receive Reiki?
Everyone, including children and animals, can benefit from receiving Reiki. It can be done anywhere and at any time. However, most practitioners prefer to work in a serene and relaxed space to enhance their own experience channeling Reiki for others, as well as enhancing the experience for those receiving. (Reiki healers also benefit from giving Reiki - almost as much as receiving).
Can I learn to use Reiki?
Sure you can! Reiki is easy to learn with just a little time and effort. The usual procedure to become a Reiki practioner is to attend at least two classes, (Level I and Level II) given by a certified Reiki Master; then get attuned to Reiki by having your channels opened by the Reiki Master.
Once attuned, the connection to the Reiki energy is always present. The more you use Reiki, the stronger your connection becomes. At some point you may want to be instructed and attuned to Level III -- Reiki Master.
Personal Philosophy Regarding the Reiki Healing Practice ~
While it doesn’t require one to be somehow ‘mystical’ - or even religious - to be a Reiki healer, you will find that many Reiki practitioners are Spiritual people. However, their spirituality should not become the focus of your Reiki sessions - and your beliefs are your own, as well.
Please be sure you feel absolutely comfortable and secure when you are being administered to by a Reiki healer. A Reiki healer should always take their ‘job’ seriously and give their clients a sense of safety and serenity. This doesn’t mean there can’t be an air of lightheartedness or friendliness, but it should not go beyond a reasonable level of comfort for the client / patient. If it does, find another Reiki healer…
The (sometimes uncomfortable) aspect of Payment ~
There are a few schools of thought on this topic, even among Reiki practioners themselves, but I prefer to follow the ways of Reiki Master Mikao Usui, ( - 1930), who believed in the "exchanging energy for energy” principle.
Back in his time, Usui experienced a particular apathy among those who received Reiki healing for Free. They began to take his services and Reiki for granted, depending solely on ‘disconnected healing’ while doing nothing to improve themselves or their lifestyle. They returned time after time, expecting repeated healings with no self-awareness or effort on their part. They did not value the gift of Reiki nor recognized their essential part in it.
Usui began to understand that there needed to be an acknowledgment of value and exchange for Reiki, so that people knew they had a hand in their own healing process (which of course, they do!) and that it was a matter of body and mind working together.
In those days, an exchange of energy for energy would most often mean bartering - instead of monetary payment; a plate of food, a basket of garden vegetables, a handcrafted item, etc. In modern times, the vast majority of us work to
attain money - so we value money – it becomes the 'exchange of energy' for us. However, I do sometimes accept Barter exchange for Reiki sessions...
